South Bristol Speleological Society

Welcome to SBSS

Croesor Slate Mine

South Bristol Speleological Society (SBSS) is a friendly caving club based in the Mendip Hills just south of the City of Bristol in South West England. If you want to go caving in or around Bristol, SBSS has plenty of caving trips planned so get in touch and come with us!

SBSS Chairman

If you've never been caving (or you gave away your stuff!) SBSS has kit you can borrow while you try and work out why you shouldn't love it enough to go out and buy your own!

Access to Longwood Valley

Longwood Valley is badly affected by ash dieback and as a result, Somerset Wildlife Trust have taken the decision to close the permissive path that runs along the bottom of the valley from the north to Velvet Bottom in the south.
Restrictions in place for Longwood Swallet and Rhino Rift.
